Summary Of The Late Traveler And Chris Mccandless

Home is a mindset. With definitions of â€Å"home† varying for so many people, there is no way to tie it to a single, concrete definition. People from both extremes, those who stay and those who wander, derive pleasure and contentment from their choices of â€Å"home†. Tying a definition to the word â€Å"home† is similar to attempting to define what makes a human being feel comfortable. The words, while simple on the surface, mean very different things to every person making them impossible to define completely. So what is a home? Home to me is a location, a sensation, and a state of mind that is combination of four different aspects: shared happiness, the present moment, passion, and the ability to adapt. The late traveler and wanderer Chris McCandless spent years traveling the country living his dream as a modern day nomad. His last known writing is this, â€Å"happiness only real when shared.† Despite the time spent to himself, away from every one close to him and the experiences he made, his final thoughts were that happiness could not be possible without a loved one to share them with. Shared happiness came to me in the form of family while growing up with a career military father. Needless to say, my family experienced relocation more than most. In fifteen years we moved thirteen times, a few of those moves being out of the country. Moving can take its toll on a young man; uprooting friendships, new schools, unfamiliar places, and sometimes feeling as if there is no set
